Creative Writing Workshop
28.10.2019
Richard Layzell
At the beginning of this workshop we were given a randomly selected word that we had to start writing about. As we continued to write we were given more random words.
Words: friend, piano, moon, flood
In the second task we had to write about something that we had done that morning.
In the third task we had to choose a word from our second task to write about.

At the beginning of this workshop we were given a selection of images to choose from. I chose a black and white image of a huge crowd of people. We then had to write about our chosen image.
In the second task we had to write about an item that we had with us, I wrote about the container of pumpkin and carrot soup that was in my bag.
In the third task we could write about anything we wanted. I wrote about happiness.

Artists Statement Workshop
11.11.2019
Jordan McKenzie
At the beginning of this workshop we had to set up a still life as a group, using items in the studio. Once the items were set up we had to write about them. I took quite a descriptive approach and wrote about what the items were and what they could mean. We looked at everyone's writing and then we were asked to repeat the task but using a different style of writing, so I simplified it.
Next, we had to write about the items in the style of a certain genre. I chose horror. I wrote about the objects and how they were used in a murder.
We were then asked to create a word triangle about our practice: 5 adjectives, 4 materials, 3 methods, 2 themes and 1 subject.
Lastly, we partnered up and described our artwork to each other and then wrote a short artist statement about the other person.

Theme: My Head Hurts
Our lives have flipped upside down,
But the birds don't seem to mind.
Nature appears to carry on,
With little care who is left behind.
Theme: Where I Am Sitting Now & What I Can See If I Close My Eyes
In my childhood bedroom I am hunched over on a small wooden stool. It was a prize that I won 12 years ago at a school Eisteddfod. I used to hate living here in Wales, with nothing to do. I thought Wales was boring. I couldn't wait to break free and escape this stupid little town. I was better than this. Better than these small minded people. But now I am back here, in this small little town. It is quiet. But the air is fresh and I can hear the birds again. I squeeze my eyes shut. But even as I sit here, in a room that has a dotty blanket instead of a wall (because my dad thought he was a builder 9 months ago), and my desk is a laundry bag stuffed with my mum's winter clothes. There is still no place I would rather be.
