UNIT 9

During Unit 9 I plan to explore my interest in the derelict and abandoned. This interest has come from my concerns about the environment and the future of our planet.

In recent years society has become increasingly worried about the environment. There has been some effort made to make changes such as replacing plastic straws with paper and metal straws, replacing plastic bags with bags for life, the increase in electric cars and there are more vegetarians and vegans than ever.

However, no matter how hard we try to live a more sustainable life, the reality is that unless the world's huge companies and corporations change the way that their businesses are run, the future of our planet is terrifying.

It seems that most world leaders and politicians are either  uninterested or in denial about what is happening to the world unless big changes are made right now. The fact that 16-year-old Greta Thunberg is doing more to raise awareness about climate change than any world leaders is appalling.

It also worries me how reliant on technology we have become. As a race we have become so lazy in recent years. Whenever we need something it has to be right now, which is why companies like Amazon are thriving and local businesses are becoming bankrupt and closing down, even big companies like Woolworths, Thomas Cook and House of Fraser have been victims of this.

So what will happen when everything around us deteriorates? We rely on technology and electricity so much, will we be able to survive if we lose that? In my opinion, if we are unable to reverse the damage that we have done to the planet, we will revert back to the way we used to live as cavemen in the ruins of what we used to have.
